Consent Decree Public Hearing

  • Dirksen Federal Building (Courtroom 2541 on the 25th Floor) 219 South Dearborn Street Chicago, IL, 60604 (map)

Join CRS and our coalition partners at the upcoming in-person Consent Decree Public Hearing!

Registration process/deadline: Anyone who wants to speak must register on the Independent Monitoring Team’s registration page by March 5 at 4:30 PM. Like for past hearings, the Independent Monitor will use a lottery to select the speakers and the order of their speaking slots. On March 7, the Independent Monitor will email people who registered notifying them whether they were selected to speak and their speaker number.

Topics for testimony: We are interested in lifting up stories about the Chicago Police Department (CPD) harming people with disabilities or people with limited English proficiency. Recent stories about CPD home raids would also be very helpful. But more broadly, stories of lived experience related to unfair/harmful treatment by the CPD would be excellent for the judge to hear.

Other logistical information about the hearing is below:

  • Each speaker will have a 5 minute slot. (More time will be allowed for someone needing an interpreter).

  • ASL and Spanish: ASL interpreters will be provided for any person who requests it in their registration. A Spanish interpreter can be brought in if any speakers need it.

  • Security: Everyone will need to go through courthouse security. Everyone must bring a photo ID for security. It may take 15-20 minutes to get through security.

  • Listening in: There is no livestream but members of the public may listen to the hearing by calling 877-336-1839, access code 6708061.

  • Written testimony can be submitted until March 15.
