Toward True Light
Community Renewal Society (CRS) highlights our member congregation, University Church Chicago (UChurch), for actively protesting anti-DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) efforts.
UChurch’s 2025 Lenten theme, “Toward True Light,” and their 40-day economic fast from companies that have diminished DEI policies like Amazon and Target is a guiding compass in the national movement toward justice for employees and customers during a time of wilderness.
UChurch Senior Pastor Rev. Julian DeShazier calls on people of conscience in every church community to grow closer to God and deeper in faith by shopping local, buying less, and soliciting companies that have reaffirmed DEI policies such as Costco until Easter on April 20. CRS uplifts this daily commitment to repent and turn from false lights that hold our attention.
We were honored to join UChurch’s March 30 Sunday Service as guest preacher CRS Executive Director Rev. Dr. Waltrina Middleton spoke on our partnered work and new ways to put faith in action. We are grateful for UChurch’s membership and the positive impact of their involvement in our mission to address racism and poverty and inspire knowledge, action, and change.
