Celebrating 5 Years of Pretrial Justice Reforms!
Join the Coalition to End Money Bond and Solidarity Cinema on September 19th at 6:30 for a celebration of the five year anniversary of pretrial justice reforms in Cook County! This event will include music, a community meal and a teach-in on the history of the movement to end money bond and end pretrial incarceration in Illinois. We will end the night by enjoying a screening of an abolitionist film!
Following years of community organizing against money bond and pretrial incarceration by the Coalition to End Money Bond and countless community supporters, Cook County implemented General Order 18.8A in September of 2017. This historic reform led to the number of people incarcerated in Cook County Jail decreasing by more than 2,000 people on any given day and more than 10,000 people each year. On the fifth anniversary of this historic reform, we’re less than three months away from the implementation of the Pretrial Fairness Act, which will end money bail and dramatically reduce pretrial incarceration in Illinois.
Come gather with us outside Cook County Jail as we look back at the movement that brought us to this moment and prepare for the fight ahead!
*We strongly encourage all attendees to wear masks while attending this event. Additionally, we encourage you to bring chairs or blankets so you can comfortably enjoy the event!*
