On this Juneteenth, let’s honor our history by continuing our ancestors’ fight for freedom.

We will honor the courage and might of enslaved Black folks and the allies who rebelled against the unjust institution of slavery.

We will dance in the sun, sweat flowing down our cheeks, wiping our brows with the memory of David Walker, who called for the abolition of slavery and appealed to the soul of colored people.

We will sit, RELAX, an act our ancestors marched for, with our bellies full of mac & cheese, chicken, and collard greens, remembering the thousands of miles walked by Harriet Tubman and the people of the Underground Railroad.

We will cry out the songs of Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, and Kirk Franklin while remembering the freedom cries of the Abolitionist movement, Frederick Douglass, and John Brown, as they fought to rid us of chattel slavery.

We will voice in unison that we all should be free on Sunday and walk hand in hand as we protest for police accountability in the streets.

We will use this fervor to champion legislation at the ballot box.

We will build political power in our organizations and congregations, knowing that a movement is insufficient if we don’t organize the people power that we have gained.

We will keep the tradition of Juneteenth alive through activism today.

On this Juneteenth, let’s celebrate our history by advancing our ancestors’ fight for freedom.

Community Renewal Society (CRS) honors the end of chattel slavery. We uplift our pillars of Police Accountability, Just Economy & Reparations, Restoring Opportunities & Justice Reform, LGBTQIA+ Faith, Race & Equity, and Healing Justice & Reconciliation.
